Private name servers are DNS name servers that are associated with a particular domain name, as opposed to being associated with those of XeonBD. Private name servers can only be used on our Reseller, Dedicated and VPS hosting plans. It is not possible to use them on our Shared plans.
Shared Web Hosting | You must use our generic name servers. It is not possible to use private name servers on Shared hosting plans. |
Reseller Hosting | You have the option to use our generic name servers or your own private name servers which would look like ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com. |
Dedicated Server and VPS | You must use private name servers. |
If using our generic name servers, it is ns1.xeonbd.com, ns2.xeonbd.com and ns3.xeonbd.net.
Private name servers would be ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com instead of name servers with a XeonBD domain.
In order to use private name servers, you must first register them at your registrar and then set up the appropriate DNS settings.
Steps to Set Up Private Name Servers
- Register your name servers at your registrar.
- Make sure A records exist for your registered private name servers.
- Make sure your SOA and NS records are correct (DNS glue).
It is important that all three steps are completed correctly, otherwise, some people will not be able to visit your sites. For example, if the DNS glue is not set correctly, some people will be able to visit your domain while others will not be able to reach it. In some cases, you may not need to do anything for steps 2 and 3, but you should still check to make sure it is set up correctly.
What Are the Benefits of Having Your Own Name Servers?
Many resellers choose to have their own name servers for appearance or branding reasons. Using our anonymous name servers ofns1.xeonbd.com, ns2.xeonbd.com and ns3.xeonbd.net can be less professional looking for a hosting company.
Other than the look of using private name servers, when you move from one server to another, there is no need to contact all of your clients and request that they change to new name servers. Your clients will begin propagating to the new server as soon as you update your name server IP addresses. This is extremely helpful if you outgrow your Reseller account and need to upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated Server.
